About Ashland's Industrial Pretreatment Program
Ashland, Ohio's approved industrial pretreatment program has been in place since 1984, and Ashland conducted its own program for nearly eight years prior to that time. The pretreatment program is responsible for inspecting and monitoring all industrial dischargers served by Ashland's Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW). Ashland's industry consists of rubber processing, printing, metal finishing, and metal manufacturing. Industrial users (IUs) are categorized as significant, minor significant, or non-significant depending on the quantity and/or strength of their discharge or other factors. All IUs that are classified as categorical dischargers under the EPA definition are considered significant in Ashland's program. During 1999, Ashland had four IUs that were classed as categorical with an additional seven significant industrial users. Fifteen industries have wastewater discharge permits, and six industries operate pretreatment facilities.
Some of Ashland's industry includes Lance-Snyder, Inc., F. E. Myers Pump Co., Barbasol, Packaging Corp of America, National Latex Products, Atlas Bolt & Screw, Ashland Chemical, Tremco, Wil Research and Novatex.
Currently, there are no major industrial pretreatment violations to report.
