NEW BUSINESS

(a) Adoption of “Sister City”:

As there were only two Council members in attendance, the meeting became an input-only discussion of the possibility of entering into a “sister city” agreement with a hurricane-destroyed city in the Gulf States. The possibility of this agreement came through the Ohio Municipal League and the National League of Cities organizations as a result of their coordinated efforts to help provide for the needs of the destroyed cities. The focus of their assistance is directed at infrastructure, utilities and basic survival needs of communities throughout the area and not only the cities receiving the bulk of media attention and assistance.

Several City Directors gave ideas from the aspect of their own departments, the Mayor outlined what he saw as possible for City departments and resources, and Council members responded, asked questions and expressed their concerns. Somewhat of a consensus was reached in that the application could be submitted so as to receive more specific information, after which there would be more discussion with Council. An informed decision could result then between the Mayor and Council, after careful consideration of departmental evaluation of specific assets and budgetary status.

The meeting adjourned at 11:34 a.m. with a motion by Stewart and a second by Valentine.
