(Children Achieving Success Together) was developed in 1994 by D.A.R.E. Officer Jeff Shipper.  The original camp was allotted for twenty-four students and was staffed by six volunteers.  Since then, it has been expanded to accommodate sixty campers and has over twenty staff members.  Approximately 450 children have attended camp and several have  returned to volunteer as staff members.

C.A.S.T. camp is designated for students that have recently participated in the sixth grade D.A.R.E. program.  The free camp is offered to students that are serviced by the Ashland Police Division's D.A.R.E. program.  This includes City Schools, St. Edward's School and Ashland Christian School.

Concepts reinforced include self-esteem building, decision making, problem solving, leadership and communication skills.  This is accomplished through various activities of the five day camp.  These include canoeing, C.A.S.T. Olympics (games you'll never see on television), service project, rappelling down 30+ foot towers, overnight camping, cooking dinner, swimming, miniature golf, driving go-carts and many more fun challenges.

C.A.S.T. camp is a day camp with the exception of one overnight campout on Thursday.  Campers are picked at various locations in the City at 8:30 a.m. and returned at 3:30 p.m.  Camp concludes at Noon on Friday.

Daily lunches, snacks, refreshments, one dinner and breakfast are furnished.  All activities are also included for the camper.  In fact, no money is required unless a cancellation notice is given after Friday, 6:00 p.m., prior to the start of the upcoming camp week.  If this occurs, a $50.00 cancellation fee may be applied.

Camp registration is restricted to thirty camper per week.  Generally, camp is offered one week in June and one week in July.  Applications are sent out to the students at school after Spring Break and have a mid-May deadline.  Acceptance to camp is done through a lottery of the applications and are not a first-come selection.

For more information about the camp, please contact Officer Shipper through the available listings on the home page.
