FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC
Starting wages –
q $9.46/hr. ($25,580 annual)
q $750/year for Ohio paramedic certification
q $550 clothing allowance
3.3 (b) Qualifications
for Fire Division
An applicant for the position of
firefighter/paramedic must give evidence of the following
qualifications.

Shall
have attained the age of eighteen (18) on or before date of
appointment
·
Shall
not be over the age of thirty six (36) on date of
appointment
·
Shall
have a high school diploma or its equivalent
·
Shall
have excellent physical condition and be able to pass ability
testing
·
Shall
have a valid Ohio driver’s license and be insurable by the
City’s
carrier
·
Shall
be able to meet the health requirements necessary to pass a
Fitness For Duty examination performed by the City’s industrial
medicine
physician
·
Shall
have at least one of the following valid certificates:
Ohio
EMT-A
Ohio
Advanced EMT-A
Ohio
Paramedic
Ohio
36 hr. Volunteer
NFPA
Firefighter I or II
Professional fees for the required medical
examination shall be paid by the City.
7.2 Probationary
Period
All original
appointments in
the classified service, including provisional appointments, shall be
for a
probationary period of one (1) year from the date of such appointment
except in
the Division of Police which shall be one year after the time of
completing all
special training requirements as specified by the position description;
and the
Division of Fire which shall be one (1) year from the time of
completion of all
special training requirements as specified by the Position Description,
not to
exceed a total of two (2) years from the date of appointment; except in
the
case of reinstatement after having satisfactorily served a period of
probation
in which case probation shall be three (3) month after reinstatement
(See 9.5
Reinstatement).
