The City of Ashland is well known for its outstanding Park and Recreation facilities. Community support over the years has allowed the expansion and development of facilities and activities.

This booklet summarizes the Park locations and shows what each Park has to offer the people of Ashland, their guests and visitors.

Park Watch

Help take a bite out of crime! Park visitors are encouraged to call the Ashland City Police Department if they witness any illegal activity within our park system. Take no action yourself, but call the Ashland Police at 289-1911 if you witness vandalism, illegal fires, suspicious persons, etc. We all appreciate your help. THANK YOU!!

Brookside Park

Swimming Pool

Brookside Pool is L-shaped with swimming depths of 2'6" to 5'. There is a ramp for handicap access from 0' to 2-6'. The diving depth is 13-3". The main part of the pool is 50 meters in length and meets Olympic standards. The pool has a water slide, and two standard diving boards, one and three meters are in the diving areas. The wading pool (1' to 1'6") for small children has a protective fence around the pool and surrounding deck, separating it from the main pool area. Individual admittance and season passes may be purchased each year. A concession area is provided and is fenced off from the main pool area to enhance housekeeping.

Band Shell

The Guy Chase Myers Memorial Band Shell was built in 1949, from funds donated by Mrs. Guy C. Myers in memory of her husband. The Band Shell activities include many varied concerts and special events during the summer months.

The Band Shell may be used for free band concerts, free musical concerts, church services, high school or college commencements, dramatic and musical programs, and for nonprofit community affairs, performances, or entertainment only. It has a seating capacity of approximately 3,000. Reservations may be made by calling Brookside Park Office at 289-8247 between 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. A small user fee is required.

Basketball Courts

Brookside court is blacktopped, lighted and available with six baskets for group or individual play.

Shuffleboard Courts

The Downs Memorial Shuffleboard Courts were completed in 1977 from a donation by Mrs. Isa Downs. Four regulation size shuffleboard courts provide play for people of all ages. The courts are lighted for night play; benches and scoreboards are provided. Playing equipment for the courts is furnished by the participants. The courts are open 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Ball Diamonds

BROOKSIDE #1 - One of the finest lighted fastpitch softball diamonds in the State of Ohio. Completely fenced in with warm-up bullpens in both left and right field. A press box behind the home plate fence is provided with a P.A. system for announcing games and seating capacity of 1,500 to 1,800. It is available for league and tournament play.

BROOKSIDE #2 - Used mainly for Youth League and Girls softball play. Completely fenced with a seating capacity of 100 - 150.

BROOKSIDE #3 - Completed in 1977, this diamond is used mainly for T-Ball. It is also used by the Playgrounds during the season and for pick-up games during the day.

Mini Golf Course

The  Mini Golf Course is closed for the year.  We hope you have enjoyed the season.

The eighteen-hole Miniature Golf Course is located beside the Brookside Tennis courts. It takes approximately twenty to thirty minutes to play the course.
Group rates may be arranged by calling the Brookside Park Office at 289-8247 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Concession Stands

Two concession stands are provided at Brookside Park. The main stand is located at the Brookside #1 Diamond, the other at Brookside Park Swimming Pool.

The concession stand at the Swimming Pool is open during pool hours.

Picnic Areas

Many picnic tables and charcoal grills are located throughout the park and are available to the public. Two sheltered pavilions, a cookhouse and a sheltered barbecue pit are available to rent. Reservations may be made year round by calling Brookside Park Office at 289-8247 between 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Summer Recreation Programs

The Parks and Recreation Department provide Summer Recreation Programs for the children and youth of the community. A summer Tennis Program is available to all school age children. A Junior Golf Program is available for youths aged 10 through 17 years at Brookside Golf Course. There is a girls' Summer Fastpitch League available for girls aged 9 through 17 years, these programs combine to make summer more interesting for the youth of our community.

The Summer Programs run Monday through Friday. In case of inclement weather the closing of the programs are announced over WNCO.

Playground Equipment

The children will love the variety and abundance of swings, merry-go-rounds, teeter-totters, wooden play structures, and slides located between the swimming pool and Brookside #1 field, and also near the miniature golf. A separate fenced-in "kiddy area" is also available.

Restroom Facilities

Three handicap accessible restroom facilities are located throughout the park and are open during summer months. The restroom at Brookside Pool, with drinking fountains, is open till 4:00 p.m. during winter months. There is a restroom located at the Band Shell and one, with drinking fountains, near the Mini-Golf Course.

Points of Interest

Brookside Park also offers points of interest such as the Johnny Appleseed Monument, the Veterans Memorial and a Covered Bridge.

Brookside Pond

Enjoy a stroll around the pond, feed the ducks or bring your pole - there's plenty of bass, bluegill, catfish and carp to catch in the 160' x 75' pond. Remember, a valid license is required for anyone 16 years or older.

Tennis Courts

Six regulation tennis courts are available and are lighted for adult nighttime play.

Horseshoe Courts

Ten horseshoe pits are provided at the Park. They are located on the West Side of Brookside #1 diamond.

How to Get to Brookside Park

From the corner of Claremont and Main Street, travel west on Main Street about 1/4 mile to Brookside Drive. Turn right into park.

Brookside West Park

Directions to Brookside West

From the corner of Cottage and West Main Street, travel north on Cottage Street to Sandusky Street (St. Rt. 96). Go left on Sandusky Street about two miles to Baney Road. Turn left on Baney Road about 500 feet to park entrance on left.

Brookside West offers five ball fields, each with seating capacity for 300, scoreboards, press boxes and lights are available for league and tournament play as follows:

BROOKSIDE WEST #1 - Fast pitch softball diamond

BROOKSIDE WEST #2 - Pony League field

BROOKSIDE WEST #3, 4, 5 - Slow pitch fields

Soccer Fields

Three regulation-size soccer fields with bleachers with seating for 100 are available for league play and are scheduled through the soccer coordinator or by calling the Brookside Park Office at 289-8247 between 7:30 a.m. - 4:00p.m. Monday - Friday. Two fields are located between the entrance drives into the park and the third is behind diamond #3, next to the tennis courts.

Basketball Courts

A blacktopped court with two baskets is available for group or individual play.

Picnic Areas

Pack your picnic basket and head to the park. Many picnic tables and charcoal grills are available and are located all around the pond. There are two picnic pavilions for rent. Reservations may be made year round by calling Brookside Park Office at 289-8247 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (Monday - Friday).

Playground Equipment

The park offers a variety of playground equipment, including slides, swings, teeter-totter and two wooden play structures located near the pond and basketball court, and another between the island and parking lot.

Hiking Trail

Enjoy a stroll along the trail that winds its way through the woods, starting and ending near the spillway at the east end of the pond.

Fishing Pond

A two-and-one-half-acre lake located at the north end of the park is stocked with bluegill, catfish and largemouth bass for fishing. A valid fishing license is required for anyone sixteen years of age or older.

Restroom Facilities

Two handicap-accessible restroom facilities, with drinking fountains, are conveniently located at Brookside West #3 and near Shelter #1, open during summer months.

New in 1992

Sand Lot Volleyball

Like playing on the beach, this regulation-size sandlot volleyball court with net is open to the public and located in the middle of the turnaround drive behind the ball fields. It is closed for the winter months.

Tennis

Three regulation-size tennis courts are located behind the ball fields, with lights for nighttime play and a play backboard for individual practice.

Shuffleboard

Two regulation shuffleboard courts provide play for people of all ages. Courts are lighted for nighttime play. Benches and scoreboards are provided. Playing equipment for the courts are furnished by the participants.

Horseshoes

The park offers four lighted horseshoe pits. Two are located near the #1 picnic shelter at the north entrance drive, and two pits are near the #2 picnic shelter behind ball field #1. Bring your shoes!

Cahn Grove Park

Directions to Cahn Grove Park

From the corner of Claremont Avenueand Main Street, travel east on Main Street to Miller Street. Go left on Miller Street to Cleveland Avenue, right on Cleveland Avenue, about 3/4 mile to park on west side of Cleveland Avenue.

Ball Diamonds

Cahn Grove Park has one, lighted, fastpitch ball diamond with a seating capacity of 160. This field is used for league and tournament play.

Tennis Courts

Two regulation-size courts are available and are lighted for adult night-time play.

Basketball Court

The blacktop court has six baskets and is available for individual or group play.

Picnic Areas

Picnic tables and charcoal grills are provided for the public. Five picnic shelters are available on a first-come basis.

Playground Equipment

A wide variety of playground equipment fills this park to let your child's imagination run wild! From slides to merry-go-rounds, wooden climbing structures, and a special fenced area with play equipment for toddlers.

Restroom Facilities

A paved walkway leads to the restroom located in the back of the City of Ashland Sewer Department's building on Cleveland Avenue and is open during the summer months.

Davis Road Park

Directions to Davis Road Park

From the corner of East Main Street and U.S. Rt. 42, travel west on Main Street about 100 feet to Davis Road. Turn right onto Davis Road, about 1/2 mile to the soccer and little league fields and another 500 feet to the picnic area.

Ball Diamonds

A youth league diamond is available for league play with a seating capacity of 100.

Soccer Fields

A regulation sized soccer field is used for league play with a seating capacity of 100.

Hiking Trail

A pathway starting west of the restroom runs through the woods approximately 500 feet and ends at the west edge of the soccer field.

Picnic Areas

Picnic tables and grills are located off Davis Road, north of the creek, for your picnic pleasure. A table and grill is also located west of the restroom near the soccer field.

Playground Equipment

A swing set is located at the north picnic area.

Restroom Facilities

A handicap-accessible restroom is available and is open during the summer months.

Emmons Field Park

Directions to Emmons Field Park

From the corner of Cottage and West Main Street, travel north on Cottage Street to West 13th Street. Turn right on West 13th Street to Troy Street. Turn left on Troy Street, about 500 feet to park entrance on the left.

Ball Diamonds

A youth league diamond, with dugouts, is available for league play with a seating capacity of 200.

Picnic Areas

Tables and a grill are available for picnicking.

Playground Equipment

A wooden climbing play structure with swings and slide is available for the children.

Restroom Facilities

A handicap-accessible restroom with a drinking fountain is available and is open during the summer months.

Spring Run Park

Directions to Spring Run Park

From the corner of Cottage and Main Street, travel north on Cottage one mile. The park is located between West 16th and West 17th Street on the west side of Cottage Street. No off-street parking available.

Playground Equipment

A wooden climbing play structure, swings, slides, and a merry-go-round will let your child's imagination run wild.

Basketball Courts

A grass court with two baskets.

Picnic Areas

Picnic the old-fashioned way, and bring your blanket to sit on. Two grills are provided.

Ringler Soccer Field

Directions to Ringler Farm

From East Main Street and the U.S. Rt. 42, travel north on U.S. Route 42, 1/2 mile to Middle Rowsburg Road. Turn right on Middle Rowsburg Road for 500 feet to the soccer field's entrance on the left.

Soccer Fields

Three collegiate-size soccer fields are available for league use with a seating capacity of 50 on fields #1 and #2.

Brookside Golf Course

Brookside Golf Course is an 18-hole, public, daily-fee golf course located in scenic north central Ashland County. It is one of the finest maintained and operated facilities in the State of Ohio.

The course is open to the public, 7 days a week, from daylight to dark. The golf course measures 6356 yards from the back tees, 6036 yards from the middle tees and 5051 from the forward tees.

Brookside provides all the amenities of a full-service golf facility while maintaining its moderately priced green fees. Gas and electric carts along with pull carts and rental clubs are available. Brookside retains the services of a PGA professional who manages and retails a full line of golf equipment and apparel. The course has an attached 8-acre driving range with short game area, practice bunker, and a separate practice putting green. Our clubhouse includes a sit-down sandwich and snack bar area for our golfers. A covered pavilion with charcoal grills and electricity is on premises and available for your larger parties and outings.

Tee times are taken on weekends during the summer and open play during the weekdays is only restricted from 4:45 to 6:00 P.M. for our league play.
