The Ashland Police Division currently has four officers assigned as detectives to the Investigation Bureau. The Bureau is led by Lt Joel Icenhour.
The Bureau's primary duty is to investigate crimes that occur within the city limits. The goal is to complete an investigation and submit the case for prosecution. To successfully investigate a case the officers have to:
- Process crime scenes
- Photograph and collect evidence
- Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects
- Complete a detailed report outlining the case facts
- Submit reports to the Prosecutor's or Law Director's Office
- Testify in court
Two of the detectives are assigned to narcotices enforcement. They are responsible for investigating crime related to trafficking and posession of illegal narcotics.
The bureau is associated with the METRICH Drug Enforcement Unit, and the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.
