The Ashland Fire Department provides emergency medical services for the city of Ashland, Milton Township, Montgomery Township and Orange Township. Additionally, we provide assistance to other emergency services in Ashland and surrounding counties when called upon. The Ashland Fire Department provides the community with advanced life support service supplied by highly skilled paramedics and EMTs. Our paramedics maintain American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification, insuring the community that we are current with the latest advances in cardiac science and lifesaving techniques. We are also trained in the latest advances in pediatric and geriatric care.
The Ashland Fire Department operates four paramedic units outfitted with the latest in cardiac monitoring, immobilization and injury care equipment. The Ashland Fire Department transports most patients to Samaritan Medical Center, but can transport patients to MedCentral Mansfield and Wooster Community Hospital as medical necessity dictates. Our paramedics have access to the most current medications available to EMS, to provide the best and safest care for our patients.
Ashland Fire Department has provided non-emergency and emergency transport service from Samaritan Hospital and local extended care facilities for over thirty years. When a physician determines that a patient has a medical need for ambulance transport, we are able to transport that patient to another care facility. Additionally, when a patient is seriously injured or ill, we are able to provide transport from Samaritan Medical Center to larger hospitals in Mansfield, Akron, Cleveland and Columbus. This service, an addition to our emergency medical service, has been a benefit to residents and visitors alike for over a quarter century.

ASHLAND CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT SMOKE DETECTOR PROGRAM
Local elementary schools participated in the fourth year of the Firefighters 1st TEAM program “Pennies for Prevention”. Each participating school competes to raise the most money in pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to purchase smoke alarms for low-income individuals or families. The top class at each school is treated to a VIP fieldtrip to the fire station and a pizza lunch with the firefighters, pizza being donated by Dor-Lo’s Pizza. The second place class, or “Best Effort” class has firefighters bring pizza to them for lunch in their classrooms. The participating elementary schools raised $3,500.00 through the “Pennies for Prevention” campaign in 2009 to purchase smoke alarms.
If you know of someone who is in need of a smoke detector, please call Ashland Fire Department 419-289-6511.
CITY WIDE HYDRANT CHECK
Helping to keep your insurance lower
The Ashland Fire Department in compliance with NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), ISO (Insurance Service Office) and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is now checking all hydrants within the city for operation and flow.
This is a service to the residents to help keep insurance rates as low as possible, to insure operation in case of emergency, and to be compliant with current national standards. Firefighters will be checking hydrants in designated areas as weather permits.
Please check the Ashland Times Gazette, local radio stations, and this web site for information when the firefighters will be in your area.
