Ashland, Ohio's approved industrial pretreatment program has been in place since 1984, and Ashland conducted its own program for nearly eight years prior to that time. The pretreatment program is responsible for inspecting and monitoring all industrial dischargers served by Ashland's Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW). Ashland's industry consists of rubber processing, printing, metal finishing, and metal manufacturing. Industrial users (IUs) are categorized as significant, minor significant, or non-significant depending on the quantity and/or strength of their discharge or other factors. All IUs that are classified as categorical dischargers under the EPA definition are considered significant in Ashland's program. During 1999, Ashland had four IUs that were classed as categorical with an additional seven significant industrial users. Fifteen industries have wastewater discharge permits, and six industries operate pretreatment facilities.
Some of Ashland's industry includes Archway Cookies, Abbott Laboratories, Myers Pump Co., Hydromatic Pump Co., The Garber Co., Packaging Corp of America, National Latex Products, Atlas Bolt & Screw, Ashland Chemical, Tremco, Philway Products Inc., and Timken Company.
Do I need a pretreatment permit?
The Ashland IPP plans to set up and begin using the POTW Administration and Compliance System (PACS) in the near future.
Currently, there are no major industrial pretreatment violations to report.
The IPP office is located on the grounds of the Ashland Wastewater Treatment Plant. From Interstate 71, turn west on U.S. 250. Turn north on U.S. 42. Cross Middle Rowsburg road, and stay on U.S. 42 when U.S. 250 splits. The plant entrance is the next driveway on the right, approximately 1/4 mile ahead. Follow the long driveway through the gate. After passing through the gate, the IPP office is in the first building on the left.
