The City of Ashland has an opening for a full-time Equipment Operator (CDL) in the Sanitation Department.

What you will do:

  • Operate light, medium and heavy motorized equipment in order to assist with the efficient delivery of City services (i.e., dump truck to plow snow, spread salt, haul stone, gravel, and other materials; leaf vacuum truck; mower; tractor; front-end loader, street sweeper, etc.); inspects equipment in order to ensure safe operation.
  • Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled laborer tasks in order to assist with the efficient delivery of City services (e.g., cuts brush; rakes and picks up leaves; shovels and rakes dirt, asphalt, and other materials; breaks up concrete and asphalt; mixes and pours cement; erects and repairs street signs, etc.).
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
  • Maintain required licensure and certification.
  • Prepare records of work completed, time spent, materials used, etc.
  • Perform any and all other duties as directed or assigned by the Director of City Services or other person acting on behalf of or in place of the Director, which in the opinion of the Director or such other person are necessary to be performed in order to promote, further, or ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Division.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is "Dedicated to Service"
  • Has earned a high school diploma or a GED, plus 2 years experience operating medium/heavy/complex equivalent or equivalent education and experience
  • Has a valid Ohio CDL
  • Is eligible to drive City vehicles under our vehicle insurance policy
  • Can regularly lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds; move up to eighty (80) pounds with assistance
  • Likes to work as a team, but is able to work independently when needed
  • Will work in the various weather conditions found year round in Ohio
  • Is available Monday-Friday, first shift, rotating on-call, and occasional call-back for emergencies
  • Is available year round, no seasonal furloughs
  • Is willing and able to learn and follow City policies and procedures

Compensation and Benefits

Wages: 

  • $19.15 plus $0.50 increase after 6 month probationary period (plus additional $1.00 per hour stipend for Sanitation Department)
  • Wage increases as outlined in the AFSCME contract
  • Year round work, no furloughs
  • Pension through OPERS with the City contributing an additional 14% and employees contributing 10% of wages.
  • Available 457 plan
