Council Clerk

The City of Ashland has an opening for a part-time City Council Clerk.

Job Responsibilities

may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Prepares agendas for scheduled Council meetings; prepares packets for distribution to members; distributes meeting agendas and information as required for all people involved; prepares legislation and other documents for signing; posts agenda and legislation on Council web site

  2. Attends and documents City Council meeting procedures (roll call, motions, votes, decision, attendance records, public hearings, audience concerns, scheduling of future meetings), proceedings, and decisions; tapes City Council meetings

  3. Assumes responsibility for meeting, legislative, and other documentation

  4. Completes legislation (assigns number, date of passage, date of Mayor’s signature, and attests signatures. Keeps a yearly list of all meetings: dates, times, type (regular, special, work, executive session and any other in which Council is involved); keeps a separate record of yearly legislation in numerical order (number, date, and preamble)

  5. Serves as a liaison between Council and other City elected officials, the media, and the general public; maintains regular office hours for public access

  6. Performs a variety of general office duties in order to assist with the efficient delivery of services

Qualifications

  1. Associate degree in secretarial science or other related discipline, plus two years of business or government office experience, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience

  2. Must possess a valid driver license issued by the State of Ohio.

  3. Must qualify and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy

 

Compensation and benefits

  1. Wages: $12.00-$15.00/hour, commiserate with experience

  2. Flexible hours, but must maintain consistent weekly schedule, plus be available for City Council Meetings (7:00pm, first and third Tuesdays each month)
