Mayor Matt Miller has selected Ashland City Police Detective Lieutenant Curt Dorsey to serve as the city's new Chief of Police, replacing Chief Dave Lay who officially retired on January 30th, 2026.
Dorsey joined the police division in 2006 as a full-time Patrol Officer and later became a Field Training Officer in 2008. In 2017, he was named a detective for the agency and he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2019. In 2024 he was promoted to Detective Lt. where he managed a squad of officers and five detectives.
Dorsey has served as union representative and a member of the U.S. Marshal's Violent Fugitive Task Force. He currently serves on the local Sexual Assault Response Team and the Heartland Technical Education Center Law Enforcement Advisory Board.
In 2024 Dorsey was named Ashland City Police Division's Supervisor of the Year, and he is a two-time recipient of the Ashland Co. Prosecutor's Award for Outstanding Dedication to Victims. He is a Shelby High School graduate and is a graduate of North Central State College.
Miller officially swore-in Dorsey on Friday, January 30th at 1:30pm at the Ashland Municipal Building, 206 Claremont Ave., in the City Council Chamber.
